Jan 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka Press Institute, the leading media development institute in Sri Lanka, is holding an international conference on journalism ethics to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Press Complaints Commission of Sri Lanka (PCCSL).

The International Conference on Self-Regulation & Ethical News Reporting opened Monday at the Sri Lanka Press Institute in Colombo.

The three-day conference from January13-15 was originally scheduled to be held from November 10-12, 2013 but postponed to this year due to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings that took place in Colombo from November 10-17.

According to the organizers, the conference aims at bringing together academics, researchers, professionals and media practitioners from Asia and worldwide for a productive and rewarding exchange of insights, experiences, views and perspectives on the need for self-regulation and Ethics in news reporting.

Among the key speakers are Programme Specialist Communication of UNESCO Mrs. Iskra Paverska, Professor and Communication Studies Chairperson, Plattsburgh State University, New York Ms. Shakuntala Rao, Director, International Centre, Goa, India Ms. Nandini Sahai and the executive director of the Centre for Law and Democracy, a Canadian-based human rights non-governmental organization Mr. Toby Mendel.

Sri Lanka Press Institute offers systematic training for journalists, promotes self-regulation in the print media, and advocates for a free and responsible media in Sri Lanka.
