* Chief Ministers request dissolution of Sri Lanka's Western and Southern PCs

Jan 11, Colombo: The Chief Ministers of Sri Lanka's Western and Southern Provincial Councils have requested the respective governors of the province to dissolve the councils.

Chief Minister of Southern Province Shan Wijeyalal De Silva said a written request has been made for the dissolution of the council.

Governor of Southern Province Kumari Balasuriya said the council will be dissolved within a day or two after receiving the Chief Minister's request.

Chief Minister of Western Province Prasanna Ranatunga a request was made to the Governor of the Western Province Alawi Maulana.

The terms of the Western and Southern Provincial Councils come to an end in April. A governor is vested with powers to dissolve a council before its term expires.

Political sources expect the elections to be held in March.
