* Date to dissolve Sri Lanka's Western Provincial Council to be announced tomorrow
Fri, Jan 10, 2014, 12:40 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 10, Colombo: The Chief Minister of Sri Lanka's Western Provincial Council Prasanna Ranatunga said the date the Provincial Council would be dissolved would be exactly announced on January 11.

He said the election would be held without naming a Chief Minister candidate from the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

The outgoing Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga expressed these views at a press conference he held yesterday to pay his gratitude to the politicians and officials that extended him the support during his tenure.

Ranatunga further said that 71 of the councilors of the Western Provincial Council have rendered him support.

Political sources say that one of the experienced politicians of the three districts of the Western Province that get highest preferential votes will be considered when selecting the Chief Minister.

Southern Provincial Council is also to be dissolved along with the Western Provincial Council.
