Jan 08, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today appointed the Kegalle District parliamentarian Kabir Hashim as the Chairman of the party, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said.

The UNP Working Committee that met today has made this appointment.

MP Hashim, a consultant economist before entering politics, filled the vacancy created by former Chairman Gamini Jayawickrama Perera who resigned from the position recently.
