* Sri Lanka ICT agency and Colombo MC set up online tax payment facility

Jan 07, Colombo: Taxpayers in Colombo Municipality can pay their taxes online from tomorrow, Wednesday 8th, 2014, the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) announced.

The Colombo Municipal Council and Sri Lanka's ICT agency (ICTA) recently signed a MoU to enable the Colombo City residents to pay several categories of municipality taxes on line.

The taxpayers need only to submit the CMC account number, the relevant street name and assessment number to pay their tax. They need logging in and entering the payment type.

Online payment can be made for rates payments, trade tax, tax on businesses, market rental, house rental, shops and boutiques rental and hawkers' rental.

ICTA Re-engineering Government Program Director Wasantha Deshapriya said all the proposed functions will be available to be accessed as a service of the www.srilanka.lk portal in all three languages - Sinhala, Tamil and English.

There are approximately 150,000 taxpayers among the 500,000 population in the Colombo municipality.
