* Sri Lanka to develop 20 towns in 2014 in addition to the capital

Jan 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Defence and Urban Development has planned to extend the urban development plans to include 20 more towns island wide.

Under the 2014 Urban Development Plan towns of Homagama, Jaffna, Eheliyagoda, Diyatalawa, Imaduwa, Urubokka, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Narammala, Panduwasnuwara, Anuradhapura, Matara, Dankotuwa, Bandarawela, Weeraketiya, Rambukkana, Nugegoda, Meegahakivula, Bulathsinghala and Moratuwa towns have been selected for the development.

These developments are to be carried out in addition to the Colombo metropolitan development plan which is already underway, Ministry of Defense and Urban Development officials said.

A spokesman of the Ministry further stated that the developments in these 20 towns will be carried out under the direct purview of the Secretary of the Ministry Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
