Feb 28, Colombo: Sri Lanka's inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers' Price Index (CCPI) , declined further to 4.2 percent in February 2014 from previous month's 4.4 percent on a year-on-year basis, the Central Bank reported on Friday.
Annual average inflation, which declined since June 2013, moderated further to 6.0 percent in February 2014, from 6.5 percent in January 2014.
The absolute CCPI computed by the Department of Census and Statistics for the month of February 2014 marginally increased to 177.8 from 177.5 in January.
The Central Bank attributed the deceleration of inflation in February 2014 mainly to the moderate increase in the price index over the previous month and the base effect.
According to the monetary authority, core inflation continued its declining trend, reflecting the effectiveness of monetary policy measures implemented by the Central Bank.
