Thu, Feb 27, 2014, 09:03 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 27, Colombo: At a meeting held Wednesday the National Selection Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) selected 17 national contracted players for the year 2014/15.

The contracted players will belong to four categories. The selectors, in addition have recommended a Special Category to be created which will consist of three players, the SLC said in a statement today.

The category selections were done based on the performance of the players in the International arena in the year ending 31st December 2013.

The T20 captain Dinesh Chandimal has been promoted from Category 2 to Category 1for the period. Others in the Category 1 are Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardena, Nuwan Kulasekara, Captain Angelo Mathews and Rangana Herath.

Lahiru Thirimanne has been promoted from Category 3 to Category 2 and placed with Ajantha Mendis while Kusal Janith Perera has been promoted from Category 4 to Category 3 and placed with Thisara Perera.

Shaminda Eranga, Sachithra Senanayake, Suranga Lakmal are in Category 4 along with Kaushal Silva, who has been promoted from Provincial Category 1 to National Category 4.

Test Wicket Keeper Prasanna Jayawardena, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Lasith Malinga have been included in the newly created Special category. Both Dilshan and Malinga have retired from Test Cricket.

According to the 2013 contracts signed by the national players, they are entitled for an increase based on the ICC Team rankings.

Since Sri Lanka has been ranked in the 5th position in ODIs and as the first in the T20 format the players in each category will get a 7% increase from the last year's contracted fee. Since Sri Lanka is ranked below the 5th position in Test category, the players will not receive any raises in that category.

Based on the ICC rankings, the top players will be rewarded for their individual performances with a bonus payment. Kumar Sangakkara, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Rangana Herath, Ajantha Mendis and Nuwan Kulasekara are eligible for bonus payments.
