Feb 23, Colombo: President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on Sunday for a three-day official visit.
Sri Lanka's External Affairs Ministry said President Karzai will meet his Sri Lankan counterpart President Mahinda Rajapaksa and other top government officials.
During his visit, an Afghan embassy will be declared open in Colombo on Monday to mark the Afghan leader's visit, the Ministry said.
Karzai's visit is aimed at further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries as both countries are members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
The government is also considering to send Sri Lankan workers to Afghanistan with the view to creating more employment opportunities for Sri Lankans and increasing foreign exchange earnings to the country.
Sri Lanka's cabinet recently approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Dilan Perera to enter into an agreement with Afghanistan on the employment of Sri Lankan manpower in that country.
