Sun, Feb 23, 2014, 12:48 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is planning to establish a broad election front, party sources say.

The discussions on this broad election front is being held these days with the other political parties, trade unions and civil society organizations, artistes and activists, a party spokesman said.

He further said that the broad political front would be formed on a permanent basis. The party expects to come to joint action through this front at future elections.

JVP is contesting all six districts of the Western and Southern Provincial Councils. The party has lost a part of its support base with the breakaway of the splinter group Frontline Socialist Party few years back.
