Feb 17, Colombo: The Working Committee of Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party (UNP) today appointed parliamentarian Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe to the party's Leadership Council to fill one of the two vacant positions.

MP Rajapakshe has been appointed to fill the position that was initially offered to Ratnapura district MP Thalatha Atukorale, UNP Chairman and Leadership Council member MP Kabir Hashim said.

MP Atukorale along with Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa refused to accept the position in the nine-member Leadership Council that is being delegated to lead the party.

However, the position offered to MP Premadasa still remains open for him, MP Hashim said.
