* Sri Lanka-Pakistan Friendship Association holds fund raising event

Feb 13, Colombo: The Sri Lanka-Pakistan Friendship Association (SLPAFA) in collaboration with the High Commission of Pakistan in Colombo organized a fund raising event recently.

High Commissioner of Pakistan Qasim Qureshi was the chief guest at the fund raising friendship evening held recently at the Grand Oriental Hotel in Colombo.

It started with the lightening of traditional oil lamp which was followed by the welcome note from Iftikhar Aziz, President SLPAFA. It featured an exciting and interesting Master Quiz competition in which participants contested as teams.

The questions in the Master Quiz Competition were related to Sri Lanka, Pakistan, World Affairs, General Knowledge, Science & Technology and Sports among other topics, the High Commission said in a release.

At the conclusion of the event the chief guest Qasim Qureshi distributed prizes to 3 top scoring teams. The proceeds from the event will be channeled towards many welfare projects of the Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association.

A large number of distinguished personalities, including former Mayor of Colombo Omar Kamil, former Sri Lankan Army Chief and Ambassador General Sri Lal Weerasuriya and President SLPAFA Iftikhar Aziz attended the event.

The Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association is one of the oldest Friendship Association of Sri Lanka which was established 64 years back in 1950.

The Association has been able to establish itself as a useful platform, dedicated to the promotion of bilateral relationship and friendship between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The Association is endeavoring to promote cultures and traditions of both nations by supporting and encouraging cultural exchanges, celebrating events of national importance of both nations like National Days, Independence Days, etc.

The SLPAFA also promotes various social welfare and fund raising activities, student exchanges and encourages students to obtain admissions into the recognized learning institutions for higher studies in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
