* Sri Lanka Navy arrests 29 Indian fishermen fishing in territorial waters
Thu, Feb 13, 2014, 12:06 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 13, Jaffna: Sri Lanka Navy personnel Thursday arrested 29 Indian fishermen and seized seven boats when they were allegedly fishing in the country's territorial waters.

A Naval craft attached to the Northern Naval Command on routine patrol has arrested the 29 Indian fishermen along with their seven trawlers engaged in fishing using banned nets in the seas off Delft.

The arrested fishermen and trawlers have been handed over to the officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Jaffna for legal action.

The Indian fishermen from Mandapam and Rameswaram have entered Sri Lanka's waters defying a recent agreement reached between the fishermen associations of India and Sri Lanka not to invade each other's waters.
