Feb 12, Colombo: The government of Sri Lanka, following a request made by the Eastern Provincial Council will set up a College of Education in the Trincomalee District to train teachers.

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena has given the green light to construct a College of Education in the Trincomalee District following a request made by Eastern Province Chief Minister Najeeb Abdul Majeed, local media reported.

The Chief Minister has informed the Education Minister that there was a severe shortage of trained teachers for subjects such as Mathematics, English, Science, and Information Technology in the Trincomalee District.

Gunawardena has said that it was essential to open a College of Education in the Trincomalee district to address the shortage for qualified teachers in Eastern schools.

The Education Minister and the Chief Minister had visited the site that had been earmarked to construct the College and officials have been instructed to commence the construction process.
