Tue, Feb 11, 2014, 12:57 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 11, Colombo: Employees of Sri Lanka Railways have threatened to hold an island wide token strike tomorrow over a dispute regarding the Sri Lanka Railways administration.

Convener of the Sri Lanka Railway Trade Union Alliance (SLRTUA), Janaka Fernando told the media that thousands of railway employees will participate in the 24-hour strike action from 12 noon Wednesday till 12 noon on the 13th.

Fernando has explained that two supervisors at Sri Lanka Railways have violated regulations of the institution and created numerous issues for railway employees.

The two supervisors have allegedly transferred railway employees at their will and also got involved in disciplinary matters.

According to SLRTUA, discussions on the matter with the Transport Ministry Secretary, Additional Secretary and Sri Lanka Railways General Manager have ended in failure.

The unions will make the final decision on the token strike this evening.
