* Intertek opens textiles and apparel testing lab in Sri Lanka

Feb 06, Oak Brook, Ill.: Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions serving a wide range of industries around the world, announced the opening of a new textiles and apparel testing laboratory in Battaramulla, Sri Lanka.

The new lab will serve retailers, brands and manufacturers of adult apparel, children's apparel, fashion accessories and household textiles.

"Because Intertek has long-standing relationships with many of the leading global brands and retailers who source and manufacture apparel in Sri Lanka, the location is ideal for expansion of our textile and apparel testing capabilities," the company said in a release.

"The apparel industry in Sri Lanka is a major contributor to the country's economy, representing nearly 40% of total exports," said Calvin Yam, Global Business Line Leader for Softlines at Intertek.

Intertek helps fabric, apparel, fashion accessory, home textile and footwear retailers, brands and manufacturers ensure their products meet safety, regulatory, quality and performance standards.

The new Sri Lanka lab brings the total number of textile and apparel testing labs in Intertek's global network to 47 throughout the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Intertek's Sri Lanka textile lab capabilities include state-of-the-art equipment for physical and analytical testing, enabling Intertek to offer a full range of frequently requested physical and chemical testing services. In addition to testing, Intertek's on-site experts offer unparalleled knowledge and expertise on global regulations and trends affecting the apparel and garment industry.
