Feb 05, Colombo: The government of Russian Federation has expressed its full support to Sri Lanka in its efforts to face challenges posed by the international community.
Russia has given this assurance when the Vice Speaker of the Russian State Duma (SD) Sergey Zheleznjak met with his Sri Lankan counterpart Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody in the parliament complex today.
Expressing his views at the Parliamentary Complex the Russian Deputy Speaker has said that the main purpose of his visit was to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Russia.
Deputy Speaker Zheleznjak leading a Russian delegation arrived in the island on Monday on a three day official visit. The delegation participated in Sri Lanka's 66th Independence Celebrations Tuesday in Kegalle.
Commending Sri Lanka's impressive economic growth Zheleznjak has said that his government is willing to extend support whenever necessary to further strengthen the friendly ties between the two countries. He said he would encourage the Russian entrepreneurs to invest in Sri Lanka.
Assuring the Sri Lankan deputy speaker that his country will continue to provide maximum support to Sri Lanka, Zheleznjak said that the opinion of certain countries on Sri Lanka is not correct at all times as a reconciliation process of its own is being operated in the island. Sri Lanka should be allowed to take its own decisions on the reconciliation process, the visiting Russian lawmaker noted.
Praising the development drive launched in Sri Lanka under the present leadership, the Russian speaker said that he was fortunate to join in the country's Independence Day commemoration at a time when all communities in the country were fully reaping the benefits of the peaceful environment after ending terrorism.
