Feb 02, Colombo: A senior Sri Lankan journalist and Assistant Vice President at Fitch Ratings Lanka has been found murdered today, local media reports said.

According to reports from Colombo Mel Gunasekara, a former journalist for the AFP news agency has been found murdered in her home in Battaramulla.

Gunasekara, 46, was found with injuries caused by a sharp weapon. At the time of the incident she was reportedly alone at home.

The police have deployed a special team to investigate the murder.

Before taking up the post at AFP, she was the founding editor of Lanka Business Online, a Sri Lankan business news portal. She also has worked as an assistant editor of the Sunday Times newspaper.
