* Landslide warning issued to several districts in Sri Lanka

Apr 28, Colombo: The Disaster Management Centre of Sri Lanka has issued a landslide warning to several districts in the country.

The Centre has requested residents in the Kegalle, Ratnapura and the Matale Districts to be vigilant of possible landslides if heavy showers continue in these areas.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has warned of heavy showers in the next few days as the inter Tropical Convergence Zone where the winds from the two hemispheres meet had set itself over Sri Lanka.

Thundershowers are expected to go up to about 100 mm rainfall. Showers can be expected in the coastal areas from Colombo to Batticaloa via Galle and Hambantota during the morning. Lightning and heavy winds are also predicted in the coming days and the public are warned to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning.
