* Sri Lanka Cricket appoints Marvan Atapattu as New national coach

Apr 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Friday announced that Marvan Atapattu has been appointed as the National Team Head Coach and Ruwan Kalpage as the Interim Assistant Coach with immediate effect.

The SLC said the appointments will be for the upcoming Ireland and England tour and the South Africa tour of Sri Lanka.

Atapattu, former Sri Lankan captain and one time coach of Singapore national cricket team, is the batting coach of the Sri Lankan team since 2011.

He was shortlisted as one of the two finalists for the coaching position last year when the SLC was interviewing to fill the position left vacant by the departure of Graham Ford. However, the SLC hired Paul Farbrace in January this year to coach the national team.

Farbrace Tuesday announced his resignation as Sri Lanka's top coach to become the assistant coach for England national team under new head coach Peter Moores.
