* Sri Lanka appoints Malinga as captain of T20 Team until March 2015

Apr 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka's cricket authority, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Wednesday has appointed Lasith Malinga as the captain of the of the Twenty20 team till March 2015.

At a Selection Committee meeting held Wednesday, the National Selectors appointed Lasith Malinga as the Captain of the National T20 Team while Lahiru Thirimanne has been appointed as the Vice Captain of same until March 2015.

Malinga, led Sri Lanka to the ICC World Twenty20 title in Bangladesh earlier this month. He took over when Dinesh Chandimal, the appointed captain for the tournament received a one-match ban for a slow over-rate against New Zealand during the group match. Following his suspension Chandimal decided to sit-out for the rest of the matches and handed over the reins to Malinga.

Angelo Mathews has been appointed as the Captain of the National ODI Team while Lahiru Thirimanne has been appointed as the Vice Captain of same until March 2015.

Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne have also been appointed as the Captain and Vice Captain of the National Test Team until March 2015.

The appointments have been approved by the Minister of Sports, the SLC said.
