* Joint operation to nab the escaped LTTE prisoner in Sri Lanka

Apr 21, Vavuniya: Sri Lanka police have launched a manhunt for a former LTTE cadre who had escaped from the Vavuniya prison Sunday night.

The Vavuniya police, Prison Officers and the Sri Lanka army have jointly launched a search operation to nab the escaped LTTE prisoner identified as Jeyabalan Stanley Ramesh, a resident of Kudirippu in Vavuniya local media reported.

The 28-year-old suspect was undergoing treatment at the Vavuniya hospital as a resident patient under the custody of prison officers when he escaped at around 11.30 p.m. Sunday, according to Vavuniya police.

The LTTE cadre has been arrested allegedly for possessing weapons.
