* President opens new facilities at Sri Lanka's Eastern University

Apr 21, Batticaloa: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa Sunday declared open several newly constructed building complexes at the Eastern University, Batticaloa in the Eastern Province.

The President declared open the main entrance of the Eastern University which was built at a cost of Rs. 7 million and the new building complex for the Arts and Culture faculties, built at a cost of Rs. 121 million rupees.

The new Ashraff Memorial Library complex of the Management and Commerce Faculty built at a cost of Rs. 171 million and Commerce and Management Faculty Building constructed at a cost of Rs. 230 million were also declared open by the President.

Meanwhile, the Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake declared open the indoor stadium of the Eastern University and laid the foundation stone for the construction of two student hostels at the University.

The President also spent some time with the students at the University and exchanged views with them.

Minister Rauf Hakeem, Deputy Ministers M.L.A.M. Hisbullah and Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, Eastern Province Governor Mohan Wijewickrama, Provincial Chief Minister Najeeb A. Majid, University Grants Commission Chairperson, Professor Kshanika Hirimburegama and Eastern University Vice Chancellor, Dr. A. Yogarajah were present at the occasion.
