* Sangakkara officially retires from T20 International cricket

Apr 18, Colombo: Sri Lanka's prolific batsman, wicketkeeper and former captain Kumar Sangakkara today announced his retirement from the game's short format.

Sangakkara has tendered his retirement from T20 International cricket, cricket governing authority, Sri Lanka Cricket announced Friday.

Addressing a letter to the Chairman of Selectors, Kumar Sangakkara has stated that "It is the right time to retire allowing SLC an opportunity to build a team for the next World Twenty20 and also to allow him to focus on Test and ODI cricket during the coming months."

Mr. Ashley De Silva, Chief Executive Officer of SLC has received an electronic copy of the letter from Kumar Sangakkara, the SLC said.

Sri Lanka's former cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene also announced his retirement from international Twenty20 at the end of the World Twenty20.
