* Sri Lanka's main opposition prepares for Uva Provincial Council election

Apr 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) has commenced preparation work for the Uva Provincial Council election expected to be held this year.

The term of the Uva Provincial Council will end this September.

UNP Chairman, MP Kabir Hashim has said the party is already preparing for the meeting although a date is yet to be fixed and the party is hopeful of faring better at the Uva elections.

Hashim said the UNP Leadership Council had met in Moneragala last month and in Badulla this month to discuss the Uva elections.

The Leadership Council will meet soon to name a nomination board to decide on the UNP candidates for Uva Province.

UNP will also conduct house to house propaganda in Badulla on May 10th and 11th and in Moneragala from June 1st.
