* Sri Lanka police take extra measures to nab drunk drivers during holidays

Apr 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police had launched a round-the-clock operation to nab drunk drivers during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays.

The Police Department had arrested and taken legal action against 211 motorists who were driving under the influence of alcohol, following operations carried out across the island within the last 24 hours.

The Police Headquarters has launched special round-the-clock operations from April 10 to apprehend drunk drivers during the festive season.

Since launching the operation, the police had filed cases against 379 motorists. Among the arrested are 208 motorcyclists and 125 three-wheeler drivers. Three bus drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
