The coconut related tourism industry is another project launched by officials of the Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB) affiliated to the Coconut Development Ministry to make Sri Lanka one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the world, Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development Minister Jagath Pushpakumara said.

The 238-acre park is being constructed in an area in the Eastern Province where thousands of tourists are attracted to the white sandy beaches of Pasikuda. A 25-acre area adjoining the coconut park will be developed as a tourist zone.

Under the project a model cultivation village that showcases all traditional coconut-related methodologies, coconut-related creations for local and foreign tourists with three tourists rests will also be set up, the Minister said.

The model village will offer the tourists an opportunity to spend their leisure time in a fresh and free coconut land. Also, they will experience the traditional methods of coconut productions in Sri Lanka.

It is expected that this will create opportunities to promote coconut based products and create employment for the people in the area.
