* Sri Lanka reduces import taxes on corn and Sorghum
Fri, Apr 11, 2014, 10:45 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 11, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has decided to reduce the import taxes on corn and sorghum effective from Friday.

The government has taken this decision due to lack of supply of anticipated local corn stocks as animal feed in the market, the Ministry of Finance and Planning has said.

According to the Ministry, all taxes imposed in the imports of corn and its substitute Sorghum have been withdrawn and a special commodity tax of 10 percent for a kilogram has been declared.

The new taxes will become effective for a period of two months starting from Friday, April 11.
