* UK says Sri Lanka's human rights situation negative in many respects
Fri, Apr 11, 2014, 01:59 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 10, London: The United Kingdom said today that the human rights situation in Sri Lanka was of serious concern in 2013 and the overall trend is negative in many aspects despite the progress continued on post-conflict issues.

A Country of Concern report on Sri Lanka released by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said although progress continued on post-conflict issues, such as re-building of infrastructure, and elections took place for the first time in the north of the country, the overall trend was negative in many respects.

The UK sees accountability for alleged war crimes, respect for human rights, and a political settlement as essential elements of post-conflict reconciliation, the report taken from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office 2013 Human Rights and Democracy Report.
