* Sri Lanka opposition criticizes appointing same ministers to the Western and Southern PCs

Apr 05, Colombo: Opposition political parties of Sri Lanka have criticized the governing party for appointing the same ministers to the Western and Southern Provincial Councils.

Propaganda Secretary of Marxist party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Vijitha Herath said the appointment of the ministers and chief ministers to the two provincial councils was similar to "baking a once baked roti".

He noted that there were many frauds and corrupt incidents reported from the two provincial councils and the re-appointment of the same members to office would only aggravate the situation.

However, Herath said the JVP will work towards exposing the corruption in the two councils.

Meanwhile, the main opposition United National Party (UNP) also expressed a similar sentiment.

UNP Leadership Council Chairman, Karu Jayasuriya said the opposition political parties could work together in addressing issues faced by the people.
