* New chief ministers sworn in for Western and Southern provinces of Sri Lanka

Apr 04, Colombo: New chief ministers for Sri Lanka's Western and Southern provinces were sworn-in before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat this morning.

Prasanna Ranatunga as Chief Minister of the Western Province and Shan Wijeyalal de Silva as Chief Minister of the Southern Province took oaths from the President a short while ago, President's Media Unit said.

Both chief ministers have secured the highest number of preferential votes at the provincial elections held on March 29.

Udaya Gammanpila, Nimal Lansa, Ranjith Somawansa and Upali Kodikara took oaths as Provincial Ministers of the Western Province.

The United Peoples' Freedom Alliance's Western and Southern Provincial Council members were also scheduled to be sworn in today.
