* Sri Lanka main opposition appoints opposition leaders of Provincial Councils

Apr 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka major opposition United National Party (UNP) has planned to appoint two senior councilors elected at Saturday's provincial elections as the opposition leaders of the Western and Southern Provincial Councils.

Accordingly, Manju Sri Arangala is to be appointed as the Opposition Leader of the Western Provincial Council. He was elected to the council from Colombo district with over 45,000 preferential votes.

Ashoka Dhanawansa de Silva who was elected from Galle district is to be appointed as the Opposition Leader of the Southern Provincial Council. He was elected with over 21,000 preferential votes.

The nominations are to be considered by the leadership council of the UNP that will meet tomorrow.
