Sept 30, Colombo: A source close to the Minister of National Languages and Social Integration Vasudeva Nanayakkara say that the Chief Minister of the Northern Provincial Council C.V. Vigneswaran has agreed to swear in before President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Jaffna.
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has agreed to discuss the issue with the President after his return from the US, the source said adding that the party is to invite the President to arrive in Jaffna for the swearing in ceremony.
Earlier, the TNA announced that the party councilors of the Northern Provincial Council would not swear in before the Governor G.A. Chandrasiri.
TNA MP Suresh Premachandran however, told local media that the Chief Minister does not need to swear in before President Rajapaksa and the party has not decided when he will be sworn in.
Meanwhile, the TNA has decided to grant one of the bonus seats of the Northern Provincial Council to Muslim candidate Azmin Ayub who contested from the Mannar district.
However, the party has still not come to a decision regarding the ministerial portfolios and the second bonus seat.
Meanwhile Chief Ministers of Central and Northwestern Provinces are scheduled to be sworn in on October 3. Dayasiri Jayasekara, who received a record number of preferential votes, will be appointed as the Chief Minister of Northwestern Province. The Chief Minister for Central Province is to be decided after President Rajapaksa returns to the country.
