Sept 28, Colombo: The Working Committee of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) plans to discuss several proposals on changing the party leadership.
The UNP Working Committee will meet on October 7th for the first time after the party experienced a humiliating loss at the September 21 provincial council elections.
UNP sources told ColomboPage that there are two proposals that have been presented to the party leadership on the changes to be made in the party.
The sources said that one of the proposals is for Opposition and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe to remain as the Opposition Leader while the party leadership is handed over to Karu Jayasuriya and the deputy leadership to Sajith Premadasa.
The other proposal is for Wickremasinghe to remain as Opposition Leader and appoint Premadasa as the party leader and Ravi Karunanayaka as the deputy leader.
All these proposals are to be discussed at the Working Committee meeting.
