Sept 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka ruling party next week will decide on appointing Chief Ministers to the two provincial councils the party won, Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
The Minister said appointing of Chief Ministers to the Central and North Western Provinces will be decided at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) central committee meeting to be held next week.
The SLFP’s central committee is scheduled to meet after leader of the party, President Mahinda Rajapaksa returns from his U.S. visit.
The committee will make decisions on naming the Chief Ministers and the other ministers for the two Provincial Councils at the meeting. Appointing of elected candidates to the main electorates will also be decided at the central committee meeting, he said.
Local media earlier reported that the party has decided to appoint the candidates who achieved the highest number of preferential votes at the two Provincial Council elections as the Chief Ministers.
Accordingly, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister's son Anuradha Jayaratne will be appointed as the Chief Minister of the Central Province while the crossed over former UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera will be appointed as the Chief Minister of the North Western Province, media reports said.
