Sept 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka Ministry of Education officials say that the island's teacher training institutes are emerging as vital players in the professional education of the teachers in the South Asian region.
The Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena laid foundation stone to build the South Asian Teacher Training Center in Meepe, Homagama on September 24.
The government has provided Rs. 30 million from the joint fund for the construction of buildings of the South Asian Teacher Training Center. The institute is expected to become a hub for training teachers in the region.
The National Institute of Education is presently educating 25 principals for a research based Master of Education course. The course is one and half years and the Maldives principals pay Rs. 300,000 as course fee.
