Sept 23, Colombo: The leader of Sri Lanka's Democratic Party (DP), former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka said that the aim of the DP was not to remain in the place of the third force but to be the second force and move further forward.
He said that his party achieved the target of marking its presence strongly at the first election they contested as a registered political party.
He further stated that the DP introduced a new political culture to the country and people have endorsed them.
According to Fonseka, the DP fought with two major political parties that failed to safeguard the vote bases they achieved.
The former Army Commander said that it is not easy to take the people out of the political structures that have remained in their lives for generations.
DP won five seats in Central and Northwestern Provincial Councils pushing back the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) which was the traditional third force of the country.
