Sept 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says that the outcome of the provincial council elections is not a victory for the people.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told a news conference that the election results do not reflect a victory for the people.
He observed that the people will have to now commence their battle for survival since elections have concluded.
Silva explained that while many statements have been made about the outcome of the election results, a lot of issues like the abuse of state power and mechanism and the holding of free and fair elections have been ignored.
According to Silva, the JVP has managed to secure its seat in the North Western Provincial Council and to record the same vote base as in the 2009 provincial council elections.
He added that the JVP has managed to secure its vote base amidst the state thuggery.
"What is important is not how the election results would affect political parties, but how it would affect the people," Silva said, adding that the people will have to re-commence their struggle against the government demanding solutions to their problems from tomorrow.
