Sept 22, Mannar: Sri Lankan Navy personnel have arrested 20 Tamil Nadu fishermen on Sunday for allegedly poaching in Sri Lankan waters.
A PTI report said the fishermen from a coastal town in Rameswaram were arrested when they were fishing in the Palk Straits.
However, a top fisheries department official has said that it was not immediately clear whether the fishermen were in Indian waters or had crossed the International Maritime Boundary Line when they were arrested.
The arrested fishermen along with 04 fishing vessels were handed over to Thalaimannar Police for legal action, Sri Lanka Navy said.
They are expected to be produced before the court on Monday.
Meanwhile, Indian Coast Guard has taken 34 Indian fishermen released by a Sri Lankan court and handed them over to district officials today.
