Sept 17, Colombo: Students of Sri Lanka's Kelaniya University have commenced a protest march against last Saturday's attack on the at the Kannangara Hostel of the University.
Around 2,000 students have commenced a protest march heading towards the University Grants Commission in Colombo, Ceylon Today reported.
The Police have deployed water cannons on either side of the roads. They have also obtained a court order against the protest from the Mahara Magistrate's Court.
Meanwhile four suspects wanted for the attack on the hostel have surrendered to the Kelaniya police Monday. The police are searching for two more suspects.
Mahara magistrate has remanded the surrendered suspects until September 20.
According to police, the suspects armed with iron rods and bicycle chains have entered the premises and damaged around 14 motorcycles parked outside.
However, no students were hurt in the incident, the Kelaniya Police said.
Following the attack, the police had set up a police post near the hostel and taken measures to beef up the security, the police said.
