Sept 16, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has taken measures to expedite the visa approval process for the attendees to the Commonwealth Summit and other meetings related to the main summit.
The government has initiated an expeditious programme to issue visas for the Heads of State and other government representatives who plan to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Colombo in November.
Sri Lanka expects around 5,000 foreign arrivals in the country to participate in the CHOGM and the related meetings Commonwealth Business Forum and the Commonwealth Youth Forum.
The Controller of Immigration and Emigration Chulananda Perera told the national radio SLBC that priority will be given for Heads of State.
He said the state representatives, those who attend the Commonwealth Business Forum and other meetings, and the media personnel will be issued visas on the recommendations of the Summit Secretariat.
According to the official, the government has made arrangements for the visitors to obtain visas easily. The facility of obtaining pre-approval of visa is also available through the Internet.
The Immigration and Emigration Controller has said that 10 special counters will be established at the Katunayake International Airport to process the entry visas.
