Sept 15, Colombo: Authorities of Sri Lanka Railways are planning to install Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) at train stations in the country, the Railway Department said.
The CCTV will be setup for the protection of commuters using the rail transport and deter crime at railway stations.
According to authorities, the Railway Control Room will have the facilities after the installation to monitor the stations during their daily operations. They will also be able use the CCTV evidence to arrest people who commit crimes at train stations.
Sri Lankan authorities have installed CCTV cameras in the capital Colombo, along the country's first expressway and in wildlife parks.
