Sept 15, Colombo: Regular train service on the Northern Line to Kilinochchi according to a time table will begin from today, the Ministry of Transport said.
According to Sri Lanka Railways three trains will be operating up to Kilinochchi from today.
The Yal Devi will leave Colombo Fort for Kilinochchi at 5:45 a.m. and reach the Kilinochchi railway station at 12:35 p.m. On the return journey, the Yal Devi will leave Kilinochchi at 6:00 a.m. and arrive at the Colombo Fort at 1:00 p.m. The Yal Devi will be operated to Kilinochchi on every other day.
The Deyata Kirula intercity train which operated to Medawchchiya earlier will leave Colombo Fort at 6:50 a.m. and reach Kilinochchi at 11:48 a.m. It will leave Kilinochchi at 2:18 p.m. and reach Colombo Fort at 7:16 p.m.
The night mail train will leave the Colombo Fort at 10:15 p.m. arriving Kilinochchi at 4:10 a.m. (next day). It will leave Kilinochchi at 8:30 p.m. and arrive at Colombo Fort at 4:40 a.m. in the following day.
A reserved third class ticket to Kilinochchi will cost Rs. 350 while a second class ticket costs Rs. 550. A ticket for the observation car will cost Rs. 900. An ordinary third class ticket will cost Rs. 220 rupees while a second class ticket will be Rs. 400.
The train service to Kilinochchi resumed Saturday 23 years after the service was suspended following the bomb attack on the Yal Devi by the Tamil Tiger terrorists.
