Sept 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka Minister of Livestock and Rural Community Development Arumugam Thondaman was released on bail today by Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Court when he appeared in court over a charge of threatening the Officer-in-Charge of Talawakelle Police station.
The Minister appeared in court according to summons served by court to him. Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Sampath Hewawasam released the Minister on a Rs. 75,000 personal surety and ordered him to appear in court on September 22.
Earlier, the police informed the Court that Minister Thondaman, who visited the police in the wee hours of 20 August with the purpose of obtaining a copy of a complaint, had threatened the OIC.
The Minister had been to the police station regarding a complaint of a clash erupted between supporters of the Minister and MP P Digambaram on the previous night.
Minister Thondaman and 7 other suspects including ruling United People's Freedom Alliance candidates of the Central Provincial Council election had been ordered to appear before the Court.
