Sept 08, Colombo: President of Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), an extremist Buddhist organization in Sri Lanka, Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero says that five politicians are behind the drug dealing in the island.
BBS has identified these politicians, Gnanasara Thero said without naming them.
Speaking to a local newspaper today, the radical Buddhist monk vowed to name them soon.
The Thero said the authorities do not arrest the real culprits of the drug dealing but the small timers.
He further said that the country lacks transparency in destroying the caches of drugs seized and suggested the government needs to implement a system of destroying the arrested drug stocks in public.
The Customs Department of Sri Lanka with the assistance of the Police Narcotics Bureau recently discovered a massive cache of heroin worth about Rs. 1.5 billion from a container in a container yard.
The container with 260 kilograms of heroin was imported to the country from Pakistan.
