Sept 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Northwestern Provincial Council candidate Dayasiri Jayasekara says that one of his prominent supporters that was abducted by an unknown group last night has been found.
The millionaire businessman Sarath Rathnayaka had disappeared from Wariyapola at around 8.30 p.m. last night and he had admitted himself into the Anuradhapura Hospital this afternoon claiming that he was tortured and dropped on the road by the gang that abducted him seeking a Rs. 50 million ransom.
Businessman's wife last night lodged a complaint at the Hettipola police after he failed to return home from an election rally he was participating in Wariyapola.
Police Media Spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardena said that Rathnayake who was abandoned by the road in Anuradhapura early this morning has managed to get a three wheeler and arrive in the Anuradhapura hospital. The hospital sources said his life was not in danger.
Hettipola police are conducting an investigation to verify if the person was actually abducted.
The ruling party candidate earlier said that he had contacted the President and the Defense Secretary to inform them regarding the disappearance and requested assistance to find his supporter before his life was harmed.
Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had informed Jayasekara that two special security teams have already commenced investigations into the disappearance, local media reported.
