Sept 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has said the government instead of restoring law and order in the country has created racism in order to gain political mileage.
JVP parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a news conference that it is the government that has created a situation for the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to present an election manifesto that is racist.
He observed that the government has also created a situation where the Tamils had to seek Indian and Western assistance to obtain something from the government.
He added that the government had a good opportunity to bring a lasting solution to the national issue but it did not take necessary measures in this regard after the war and failed to pay attention to the issues faced by the people.
Dissanayake noted that the government through its actions during the last four years has made the Tamils lose faith in the government and has made them to believe that they should establish their own government.
"This has led to the Tamil racist political campaign to raise its head," he said.
