Sept 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Colombo Fort magistrate granted bail to arrested former Deputy Inspector General of Police Vaas Gunawardena in one of the cases against him.
Accordingly, he was granted two sets of surety bail each for Rs.1 million in a case against him over threatening four officers of the police Criminal Investigation Department.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Shani Abeysekara, who led the investigations into the alleged contract killing of a millionaire businessman by the former DIG, was among the police officers the former DIG threatened to kill.
However, the DIG was not released since he is remanded for two other crimes including the contract killing.
He was arrested after his bodyguards were taken into custody following alleged contract killing of the Muslim businessman.
