Sept 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) will hold the party's 67th anniversary on Friday September 06th at 8.30 a.m. under the patronage of the party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe. The anniversary celebrations will be held at the party headquarters Sirikotha in Pitakotte.
The Chairman of the Youth Front of the UNP parliamentarian Ruwan Wijewardene said the anniversary is organized by the youth and students' wings of the party and the majority of the participants of the anniversary would be the representatives of youth and student bodies.
The theme of the 67th anniversary is 'It is 67 and the victory is closer', a party spokesman said.
UNP was established in 1946 uniting a number of political groups. The party formed the first government in Sri Lanka after the independence from the British colonial rule.
