Sept 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Department of Registration of Motor Vehicles has earned Rs. 400 million within the past six months by way of providing facilities to reserve advanced plate numbers.
According to the facility, the motor vehicle owners can obtain a number in advance by paying a certain amount extra.
Normally, the vehicles are given numbers serially. But under the new facility, 20,000 numbers that are to come ahead have been issued for extra fees.
The Department has decided a charge of Rs. 70,000 for the AAB numbers that are to come ahead.
Department sources say that there is a large demand to obtain the services of this facility.
